Stefan Simchowitz : ウィキペディア英語版 | Stefan Simchowitz
Stefan Simchowitz (born October 8, 1970) is an art collector, art curator, art advisor, independent film producer and assistant producer based in Los Angeles. Simchowitz is a known proponent of social media as a means of discovering, distributing, and popularizing art, primarily making use of Facebook and Instagram. Simchowitz believes that conversations on social media hold a degree of influence over the art world comparable to something as canonical as an art review written by a top critic such as Roberta Smith for the New York Times. Supporters believe he is concerned with diversifying the number of systems which recognize and produce credible artists. ==Controversy== Simchowitz is a popular target for critics who claim that his method of promoting young, undiscovered artists by bulk-purchasing their work to flip for profit destabilizes the established workings of the art world — age-old, value-determining systems which include a bevy of art critics, publications, museums, galleries, and universities. Simchowitz subverts this establishment by selling his acquisitioned art to a wide network of wealthy clientele who trust his taste implicitly. Some never even see the art before he purchases it for them. He has been called the Michael Milken of the art world,〔 and “a Sith Lord from the Brotherhood of Darkness,” and sees himself as the art equivalent of what Martin Luther was to the Catholic Church, a disruptive force exerted upon a monolithic institution. Artists such as Petra Cortright, Oscar Murillo, Zachary Armstrong, Kour Pour, Parker Ito, and Marc Horowitz can all find ties to Simchowitz.
